Best viewpoints in NYC
From the top of the skyscrappers, from a boat or from a bridge, Manhattan has a huge list from where to shot the best pictures of the city center..
Here are my top places...
Climb the Empire State Building
Impossible to miss, The Empire State Building is in the middle of Manhattan, one of the highest point of view above the city, and crowded at the sunset. But it is really worth it. 360° view on the city and New Jersey, it will let you amazed by the immensity of the city and the architecture of the streets.
230 5th Avenue rooftop, for a mojito with a view
I wanted to try one of the famous rooftops party, and as I planned to go at the Flatiron building and was in the neighborood, I choose this one and was not disappointed.
Do not forget your ID, because as most of the bars, you will not be entitled to enter (even only for the view) if you are not above 21.
Amazing view just above the area, good cocktails and music, and nice food treatment. I will definitely be back there again!
Top of the Rock - Rockfeller center
Also available with the New york city pass, you will enjoy many different views, and above all the one on Central park, which is parting Manhattan in two.
On the other side, the view is incredible on Manhattan building and the Empire State building. Stunning!
Liberty Island ferry & Ellis Island
From the ferry of Ellis Island (some are free) or making the tour to the Statue of Liberty (New York city pass), the view on all Manhattan and New Jersey are really awesome. Do not miss it!
Central park reservoir, for a panoramic view
If you have time for a walk around central park (north west side), walk along the Central Park reservoir and try the panoramic mode... it is amazing.
Central park lake, a romantic promenade
Another great spot in Central Park is the lake (above all in Spring season, flowers are blooming). Rent a small boat ($12) at the entrance for 1 hour and picnic with the skyscrappers all around you.
Brooklyn bridge
Free and amazing spot, you will be able to see all Manhattan architecture. For best shots, I advise you to come early morning or evening, as it can be easily crowded.
Be careful as bikers and runners can sometimes bite if you stay in the middle.
One of my preferate spot!
Most of all those panoramic views are available with the NY pass (Top of the rocks, Empire state, the islands, ... ) or for free.
Other typical photo views
- Time Square
For the neon advert lovers and the taxi shooting.
- Flatiron building
Never seen elsewhere architecture
- The High Line
Incredible alley and promenade along the buildings, a refreshing area with long chairs, plants and amazing architecture... Spend your afternoon there and grab a drink or ice cream!
Do not forget the sunscreen :)
Have a nice journey!
